CINCINNATI, May 24 /PRNewswire

Mentos(R) and the performance artists of Eepybird have made Mentos Geyser history in Cincinnati with a big splash. Eepybird, with the help of about 500 Greater Cincinnatians equipped with the new "Mentos Geyser Loading Tube," launched the largest number of Mentos Geysers ever to be set off all at once in one location, setting a world record. The new world record set was 504 Mentos Geysers. Hundreds of other Mentos fans watched the amazing event at Cincinnati's landmark Fountain Square.
Eepybird became famous in Summer 2006 with their Mentos Geyser video, "Experiment #137," a quirky homage to the "Bellagio Fountain" in Las Vegas.
The Eepybird performers lead the crowd in creating 504 synchronized Mentos Geysers, creating the first-ever Guinness World Record for "Most Mentos and Soda Fountains."
"What could be fresher
than setting a new world record?" said PeteHealy, Vice President Marketing
at Perfetti Van Melle USA, distributor of Mentos. "We were thrilled to
see so many Mentos fans turn out for the bubbly fun!"
An official from Guinness World Records confirmed the 3,000-gallon float, made of Vanilla Coke and ice cream, set the new world record.
The Coca-Cola Co. held the previous world record for largest ice cream float 2,085 gallons that was set in 1998 in Atlanta, said Guinness representative Derek Musso. He said he was not aware of any other attempts to break the former record.
A tanker from the Atlanta-based company's syrup plant pumped a non-carbonated mixture into a specially made 15-foot-high glass containing a device that carbonated the beverage. Workers dropped buckets full of ice cream into the top of the glass by hand, and a 50 lb foam & resin cherry (Creative 3D, Cincinnati Ohio) was droped from a 10 foot beam when the record was officiated.
